Kerala the world renowned tourism state set to be a total ayurveda state. The mountainous Edamlakkudy. 25 kms from the renowned hill station Munnar of Kerala in Idduki district is the remotest village panchayat in Kerala.
The nearest road head to this village is located at a distance of 13 kms and after that one has to trek through the mountain paths for hours to reach the village, which is home to Muthuvan Tribal Community. The other way to access this village is fromValparai which is also the border of Kerala and Tamilnadu. 

Here the healthcare system is usually practice using herbs, tribal rituals and occasional supplies of modern medicine. During the menstrual period, women are forced to live inside the jungle for three to five days, while during the time of childbirth, women and the newborn are forced to live alone in the jungle for a time period of 40 days. Staying alone inside the jungle hut during childbirth in this village is the toughest part of women’s life. 

To provide better healthcare, the Kerala government is now going to set up an ayurveda dispensary at this remotest village Edamalakkudy. The State Cabinet on Monday has decided to set up four remote panchyats as part of the government initiative. 

Dispensaries are also going to be set up in Edamalakkudy as government’s initiatives to provide better healthcare to all corners of the state. Last week, that Government has taken initiative infact  had decided to set up 25 dispensaries in 25 village panchyat. 
 

With Monday’s decision of the cabine, all the 978 village panchyats will have government ayurveda clinic. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said, “Kerala has become a ‘total ayurveda’ state,”. 

Anitha Jacob, director of Indian Systems of Medicine, told Business Line said “ With the new initiative from the government to open  up for dispensaries, all the panchayats as well as municipalities and city coperations will have will have medical care facilities in the government sector,” She said, some of the panchayats have National Rural Health centre supported by temporary dispensaries. 

Kerala a well known state for ayurveda medical tourism sector has large network of private sector ayurvedic institutions and among the many such institutes, Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala is the reputed one. Including many other health care many other specialized faciltieis for eye care have come up. 

Kerala promoting tourism attractions is also targeting and promoting ayurvedic body rejuvenation treatment and massages as part of their initiative and as Kerala’s attractions. Many tour operators are selling the packages in the name ayurveda body care session, which is liked by many not just from across India, but from across the world.
